History
In 1932 the very known aircraft constructor Kurt Tank became technical director of Focke Wulf Bremen.
The first plane, which he constructed was the Stieglitz. The motive for the construction of this plane was the question from the aerobatic pilots, like Emil Kropf, Ernst Udet, and especially Gerd Achgelis, who made a strikingly tour through the U.S.
The German Verkehsrsfliegerschulen and later the Nazi Luftwaffe used the Stieglitz many times. Because of this the demand for this plane became very high. The airplane was build by various licence holders. The airplane of ATN, is made by Ceskomoravaska Kolben-Danek (CKD) at Prague in 1940 and has flown as SZ-21 in the army in Finland. At this moment the Stieglitz is registered in Germany as: D-ELFW.
Most Stieglitz planes are in museums, only a few are airworthy.
The restoration
The airplane was placed in a container by ATN in the U.S.A. and transported to Hoogeveen. The Stieglitz has a BMW designed Siemens Sh 14 which is a radial engine of 150 hp.
The aircraft will be brought back to airworthiness condition and painted in the colour scheme of the Olympiade of Berlin (1939). This colour scheme exists is of silver with a blue band. Because there are few photos from the Olympiade planes, it was hard to find the text that was on the planes. But WWII veteran Hans Reuckes had flown in the olympiade Stieglitz and knows what that text was. Thanks to biplanes.de we contacted him. All instruments shall be restored to their original state.
During the International Old Timer Fly-inn, Schaffen - Diest (Belgium), 14 and 15 august 2004 the Stieglitz received the "Best Vintage" award. |
